EU in the Caucasus: Gas, Oil and Betrayal

There are two film documents from the past few days that are remarkable in their own way: First, a very worthwhile Arte documentary about the fight for survival between NATO member Turkey and Azerbaijan, a “reliable partner” of the EU (according to Commission President Ursula von der Leyen), wedged Armenian people:

This was followed by a panel discussion from this year's Munich Security Conference, at which the apparently still triumphant Azerbaijani dictator Ilham Aliyev, in the presence of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, even recommended the deaths of thousands in the Caucasus, instigated by Baku together with Ankara in 2020, as a blueprint for the further war in Ukraine:

For classification, a current View of Nagorno-Karabakh, where still over 120.000 people are cut off from supplies. This should also be the case today's decision The International Court of Justice's ruling that Azerbaijan must immediately end the blockade will change little. Genocide Watch warned urgently of a new genocide on the occasion of Azerbaijan's attacks on Armenian heartland in September 2022.

The diplomatic efforts of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and EU Council President Charles Michel are taking place largely without the public being distracted by the war in Ukraine. In some places, the topic is not even hushed up.
