Nagorno-Karabakh: Environmental protection with a difference

For over a month, soldiers labeled "environmental activists" by Azerbaijan have been blocking the only road from Armenia to Nagorno-Karabakh. More than 120.000 Armenians are cut off from supplies, including food and medicine. are becoming increasingly scarce.

While the EU likes to present itself as a peace force in the case of Ukraine and most media march almost in step for the supposed rescue of democracy, in the case of the EU gas supplier and “reliable partner” Azerbaijan (Ursula von der Leyen) attacked Armenians, there is almost no commitment or even attention. With its eyes firmly closed, Europe seems willing to impending second genocide to stand idly by and watch the persecution of Armenians by Azerbaijan together with the EU accession candidate and NATO partner Türkiye.

The fact that some news agencies and media outlets in Germany, in their sparse reporting, even adopt the Azerbaijani narrative of "environmentalists" who are quite reliably locked away in the oil and gas dictatorship seems almost tragicomic. Consequently, the editorial offices in question should also replace the term "war" in Ukraine with "military special operation" in the future. Azerbaijan ranks 154th out of 180 countries in Reporters Without Borders' press freedom ranking.

The collective failure is crowned by the adoption of a second Azerbaijani narrative: under international law, the region of Artsakh/Nagorno-Karabakh, inhabited by Armenians since time immemorial, belongs to Azerbaijan, and the Armenians keep it "occupied." In reality, Nagorno-Karabakh was annexed to the Azerbaijani SSR by dictator Stalin in a coup. Upon the collapse of the Soviet Union, the population declared itself independent in accordance with the then-valid Union law. legally valid as independentAnyone who does not even want to grant the world's oldest Christian nation its right to exist under international law should also advocate for the swift reversal of Kosovo's independence.

The fact that Ukraine, a supposed bastion of democracy and human rights, is on the side of the murderous dictator Aliyev, for whom even the Armenian capital Yerevan belongs to Azerbaijan, is a further irony of this sad story.

We support Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty just as Azerbaijan always supports our territorial integrity and sovereignty.

President Volodymyr Selensky, quoted by Anadolu Agency

Investigative or at least independent journalism, which is unfortunately lacking in Germany is not in good shape, has the task of To point out contradictionsThe hypocrisy in Berlin, Brussels, and even in Kyiv in the supposed war for values could hardly be greater.
